Postcard that asks if introverts can be confident and good leaders.

It’s tempting to think that this is true.. After all, many people confuse introversion with shyness (No, they aren’t  the same thing. More on that in another post).

Introverts draw energy from within and this quality does not speak to how confident (or not) a person is.

Think about some of the much-respected leaders, like Barack Obama. Like Abraham Lincoln. Like Stacey Abrams. Like Mahatma Gandhi.

Yes. Yes. Yes. And yes. All introverts.

Those qualities that introverts are often known for, such as calmness, good observation skills, reading between the lines all help in reading, inspiring and leading people.

Extroverts and Introverts can be equally successful at leading people, although the research shows that they excel at leading different types of team members or employees.

The more extroverted leader can do better with team members who are happy to take direction or maintain the status quo, while the more introverted leader can succeed more with team members who show more initiative.

Research also shows that introverted leaders are better suited for times of great uncertainty.

So what are your traits and innate abilities and how do you think these affect the way you lead?
