Cover of Anjola's Diary

Holiday weekends are for reading. Rarely do I get the opportunity of unbroken time to leap into a book and so when I do, I take it.

This weekend’s read was Women of the Ayo-Kessington Dynasty Volume 1 also known as Anjola’s Diary by Layemi Olusoga.

“I need a vacation! No, it’s not because I need to rest or spend time with TK my husband, it’s because I am BORED! …”

So starts the book.

Okay, I thought. This is going to be a fast and bumpy ride of a book.

I wasn’t wrong. 30 year old Anjola reflects on her life, especially her eventful marriage to her husband Adetokunboh Ayo-Kessington (TK) and her turbulent relationship with his family – particularly his mother, The Duchess.

Action Lady Anjie goes for what she wants with no apologies. When she is confused though, her not always well-thought-out decisions lead to chains of events that almost blow- up her marriageĀ  and beautifully-arranged life.

TK isn’t perfect either and I was surprised that their marriage lasted as long as it did. But the thrills kept on coming, keeping me hooked on the plot.

This book is a far cry from some of the books I read lately, which have a very slow and gradual build-up.

Anjola’s Diary takes you BOOM into the eye of the storm in the first chapter.

I enjoyed reading it and look forward to the other books in the trilogy.
