Introverts have an incredible capacity to focus.
Neuroscience backs this up. Dopamine is a chemical that is released in the brain providing us with the motivation to seek external rewards such as money, sex, status or food.
Researchers found out that the dopamine centers of the brain in extroverts get much more active than in introverts when getting in contact with these external rewards i.e. extroverts are more likely to be excited by these external rewards, while introverts are less likely to get distracted by these type of external stimuli.
In other research studies done, when presented with a difficult puzzle, introverts were more likely to stay on it than the extroverts in the group.
All this is to say that YOU have incredible capacity to focus, which is one of the most valuable tools in a leader’s toolbox. It helps you stay on track and work towards the main vision and not get sidetracked by things like people’s opinions, interruptions in your work, every new fad, social media and email.
If you are introverted and an introverted leader, do you find this to be true for you?
