Book Cover of Olufunmilayo - My Story

“You mean my husband had died? It was then some of them burst into tears and the journey of me being a single parent started but not without God.”

Olufunmilayo – My Story chronicles the remarkable life of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Green, married at 23 and widowed at 30 with three young children to raise. Although the life that she had planned with her husband, with the beginnings of a very comfortable and exciting journey, was gone, she managed to build a different but ultimately happy one for herself and her children.

Armed with her unshakeable faith in God and her personal tenacity and grit, she put one foot in front of the other and moved forward in her grief.

I cannot imagine that losing a spouse is easy – whether it’s early in the marriage or after decades together. And then having dependants to care for is doubly difficult, because you need to keep moving despite your pain. And of course, everyone is grieving in their own way.

This book tells the story of how Pastor Olufunmilayo Green was able to find a new meaning in life and succeed on her own terms.

I am always interested in learning how people live with grief and from this, other accounts I’ve read and mine, I know that each experience is unique but some things that help are find a purpose beyond oneself.

For Pastor Green, God and her children were among those motivations.

The “Familiography” section was a true testament to how important her family is to her and she to them. I love the idea of giving people their flowers and accolades while they are still around to enjoy them.

There were lessons on virtually every page, but maybe some of the key ones for me were:

* Know yourself
* Key into the promises of God for your life
* Success is not measured by wealth and education alone

I was certainly moved and inspired by My Story.
